My experience in learning English: I grew up in China and my mother tongue is Cantonese. Mandarin is fluent of course. English is a compulsory course from grade 1 in primary school. However, lots of parents would like to send their kids to learn English in some language school from very little, like 3 years old. So I’ve been learning English for many years but I cannot say that I’m fluent in English until I moved to NewZealand three years ago. Now English becomes very familiar as all the stuff i learned in high school is in English, so I can’t even explain my high school stuff in Chinese now as it’s just hard to convert😅 From my personal experience, practising speaking English with others or living in an English speaking country is much more effective than learning from resources by yourself or at school.
